Spring Sentinel – Whinchat by S Jayaraj

The Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) is a small migratory songbird that breeds in rough pastures, grasslands, and heathlands across Europe and western Asia. Recognizable by its bold white eyebrow stripe, it perches on tall stems to hunt small insects. In this charming pure-watercolor study, S Jayaraj captures a male Whinchat standing poised atop a cluster of vibrant yellow wildflowers. By balancing clean detail on the subject with soft, spontaneous background splatters, Jayaraj captures a fleeting moment of field-side elegance with warmth and naturalistic grace.
