Strength in the Local – Indian Pond Heron by S Jayaraj

In this striking mixed-media piece, S Jayaraj captures the quiet alertness of an Indian Pond Heron. The composition gains powerful philosophical weight through the prominent newspaper quote on the lower right: 'People think someone's going to come from outside and cure the problem... The key to success is to strengthen what's local.' By anchoring a ubiquitous, highly adaptable wetland bird alongside this call for local action, Jayaraj reframes an everyday species as a resilient emblem of community-driven conservation.
