Between Roots & Reverence – House Sparrow by S Jayaraj

In this poignant mixed-media artwork, S Jayaraj renders a male House Sparrow standing vigilant on a slender twig, elevating a once-common companion of human settlements into a subject of quiet reverence. The composition is anchored by a prominent torn dark paper scrap bearing the visible phrase 'Between Roots & Reverence.' Once ubiquitous yet now facing quiet declines in modern cities, the House Sparrow here becomes a quiet ambassador, asking us to reflect on our lost connections to everyday nature.
