Asma Menon
Asma Menon is a painter and printmaker known nationally and internationally for a practice built on over 25 years of research into mythology, religion and mystical storytelling. Her works have been featured in over 10 solo and 40 group shows, including being auctioned at Christie's. A student of Chennai artists R. B. Bhaskaran and Alphonso Doss, her art moves freely between fables, myths, personal stories and allegories, linking ancestral and contemporary Indian character in a unique artistic expression. The role and image of women, particularly the multicultural concept of the Earth Mother, takes a central position in her highly patterned, vibrant canvases populated with goddesses, mermaids, dancers, flora and fauna, and figures drawn from across cultures and traditions.
Beyond painting, Asma's creative practice extends to working with children, corporate training, and participating in national and international art and printmaking camps. She is also a published author, her collection of short stories titled Moonlight Baby having been published, with a novel currently in progress.
